September 23 – 24, 2022
Convention Registration Information
Registration and SP&SRHS Membership are necessary for the primary registrant to register and participate in convention activities. Spouses and children of registrants who don’t wish to attend the presentations may pay for and attend the banquet without registering for the convention. All convention fees are refundable upon the registrant’s request until August 25, 2022. In the now very unlikely event that Covid-19 conditions force a cancellation of this convention, all fees will be refunded.
Convention Site: The Riverhouse on the Deschutes
3075 N Hwy 97, Bend, OR 97703, (541) 639-3481
The convention location will be held in the Riverhouse resort hotel conference room. All in-house activities will be in their meeting room. We have obtained a very attractive group rate for sleeping rooms of $169/night at the resort hotel. Refer to the SP&S Ry Historical Society to obtain the group rate.
Our planned program is summarized below for your information. The Full Registration Fee includes: all in-house convention presentations as well as your Saturday banquet. There are no excursion trains or other outside attractions that justified the cost of chartering a motor coach and its associated cost, so this year we are planning a two-day convention. All included at one bargain price! If you can’t make the full 2 days, we offer a single day registration and separately priced banquet pricing. Spouses and children may register for and attend the banquet without registering for the convention.
The convention will kick off on Friday morning with registration and the first presentations at 9:00am.
We have commitments already from a number of SP&S experts. Presenters include: Paul Hobbs, Martin Hansen and a new member, Michael Hall whose grandfather was a fireman and engineer on the SP&S in the first half of the Twentieth Century and photographed nearly every steam locomotive on the roster. Other presenters are being sought to fill out the two-day program.
We’ll start off Saturday morning with a Board and Membership Meeting where we’ll discuss what’s going on in the Society followed by more presentations focused on the SP&S on the OT.
Saturday evening will be our annual banquet and Raffle.
Annual Raffle: We’ll have our annual raffle with some great prizes. This year there will be two grand prizes and a 1st prize heading the list. Bowser has generously donated two of their current run of SP&S RS-3’s, each with a different number. These locos are painted in the wide stripe scheme. In addition, longtime member Bill Carter has donated a DCC and sound equipped GN 2-8-2 Mike in Glacier Park paint. There will, no doubt be many other raffle prizes on the list by the time of the convention. This event is also great fun and the climax to our convention and banquet.
